Turn your passion into profit.
Google AdSense is a free, simple way for website publishers of all sizes to earn money by displaying targeted Google ads on their websites.
How AdSense works
Google AdSense provides a way for website owners to earn money from their online content. AdSense works by matching text and display ads to your site based on your content and visitors. The ads are created and paid for by advertisers who want to promote their products. Since these advertisers pay different prices for different ads the amount you earn will vary.
The right ads for your audience.
Ads are reviewed to ensure they’re high quality and relevant to your content or audience, even when viewed on smartphones and tablets. The result? You can make more money online.
You’re in control.
Block ads you don't like, customize where ads appear, and choose which types fit your site best.
Here's how AdSense works in three steps:
1. You make your ad spaces available
You make your website ad spaces available by pasting ad code on your site, and choose where you want the ads to appear.
2. The highest paying ads appear on your site
Advertisers bid to show in your ad spaces in a real-time auction. The highest paying ad will show on your site.
3. You get paid
|We handle the process of billing all advertisers and networks for the ads on your site, to make sure you receive your payments.
How AdSense differs from other ad networks
This innovative Google business solution will help you unleash the true revenue potential of your site. Here are just some of the advantages of our program:
- Run ads that will interest your users.
Google AdSense delivers easy to read and text and image-based ads targeted to the content of your pages and AdSense for search queries.
- Leverage Google search technology.
The proprietary Google search and page-ranking technologies are the foundation for AdSense. We understand the context and content of webpages and precisely match Google ads to your pages.
- Run ads targeted to your audience.
In addition to keyword-targeted ads, Google also provides placement-targeted advertisements, offering pay-per-impression ads that are specifically suited for your pages.
- Filter unwanted ads.
Google combines an editorial team, filtering technology, and your input to create a robust set of filters that are right for you.
- Getting started is fast and easy.
Getting started with AdSense is easy and requires no engineering resources on your side. We give you a few lines of HTML that you add to any of your webpages. It takes just minutes, after which you'll be serving Google ads on your pages - and generating more advertising revenue.
Does participation in AdSense affect my site's position in the Google search results?
Participating in Google AdSense does not affect your site's rank in Google search results and will not affect the search results we deliver. Google believes strongly in freedom of expression and therefore offers broad access to content across the web. Google search results are unbiased by their relationships with paying advertisers and publishers. Google will continue to show search results according to PageRank technology.
Adding the AdSense code to your site will not queue your pages for crawling by main index bots. While bot does crawl content pages for the purpose of targeting ads, participation in AdSense does not increase the number of pages from a site in our main index.
The difference between AdWords and AdSense
The Google AdWords program enables you to create advertisements which will appear on relevant Google search results pages and our network of partner sites.
The Google AdSense program differs in that it delivers Google AdWords ads to individuals' websites. Google then pays web publishers for the ads displayed on their site based on user clicks on ads or on ad impressions, depending on the type of ad.
AdSense revenue share
For displaying ads with AdSense for content, publishers receive 68% of the revenue recognized by Google in connection with the service. For AdSense for search, publishers receive 51% of the revenue recognized by Google. These percentages are consistent, regardless of a publisher's geographic location, and are not in any way averaged between publishers. We don't disclose the revenue share for other AdSense products; the revenue share varies for other products due to different costs of developing and supporting these products.
You can view revenue share details in your account:
- Sign in to your AdSense account.
- Click the gear icon and select Settings.
- In the sidebar, under "Account", click Account information.
- In the "Account information" section, you'll see each revenue share displayed next to "Active products."
We believe our revenue share is extremely competitive. However, revenue shares alone can be misleading, so we encourage you to focus on the total revenue generated for your site. For example, if Google’s auction of ad inventory on your site generates $100, with our 68% revenue share you'd receive $68 through AdSense. Another ad network might offer an 80% revenue share, but only collect $50 from advertisers, so you'd receive $40.
With the vast number of advertisers competing to appear on AdSense sites, our system ensures that you're earning the most possible for every ad impression you receive.
How much will I earn with AdSense?
There's no precise answer, because your earnings will depend on a number of factors.
- The type of ads appearing on your pages: By displaying ads with AdSense for content, you can display ads that are paid when users click them or when users view them. All ads compete in an ad auction, and our system automatically picks the advertisers who are willing to pay the most while ensuring a good user experience.
- The pricing of ads appearing on your pages: Not all ads are priced the same, so factors such as changing advertiser budgets, your specific content, and the ads your users choose to click will cause your earnings to vary even from day to day.
- How many AdSense products you use: You can earn from AdSense in many different ways -- by displaying ads on your webpages, by providing search to your users, and more. Using more AdSense products will increase your potential earnings.
The best way to find out how much you'll earn is to sign up and start showing ads on your webpages. There's no cost, no obligation, and getting started is quick and easy. Sign up now.
Once you're a part of Google AdSense, you can see your earnings at any time by signing in and viewing your reports. You'll be able to see the total number of ad clicks, impressions, clickthrough rate, and your total earnings. This information will give you an idea of how well the program is performing for you and how much you can expect to earn over time in the program.
How to earn with AdSense for search
AdSense for search lets you offer your users Google web search directly from your pages. By placing an AdSense for search box on your site, you'll generate earnings from ad clicks made by users on the search results pages.
You won't, however, receive revenue from user searches through your AdSense for Search box. When users perform searches on your site, but choose not to click on the ads on the search results pages, you will not receive any earnings.
Do I have to pay to use AdSense?
No, participation in AdSense is free. Even better, Google will pay you for clicks or impressions on the Google ads you'll display on your site. For more details on the revenue you can generate with AdSense, read our entry on earning with AdSense.
